Cruise Industry Surpasses $100 Million Mark for the First Time in Atlantic Canada

April 25, 2017 (Halifax, Nova Scotia) – The Atlantic Canada Cruise Association (ACCA) is very pleased to report that direct spending by the cruise industry in Atlantic Canada in 2016 totalled $102 million. These details come from a recent study titled, “The Economic Contribution of the International Cruise Industry in Canada 2016.” The report details the economic impact of the cruise industry as a whole in Canada for 2016 and shows that Atlantic Canada is a premier cruise destination with unique port destinations that offer the thrill of discovery, the tranquility of nature and welcoming people.

Strong 2016 Cruise Season starts April 30 in Atlantic Canada

April 29, 2016 (Halifax, Nova Scotia) – The 2016 cruise season gets underway in Atlantic Canada this weekend with the arrival of the Holland America Veendam in Halifax on April 30, Sydney on May 1, and Charlottetown on May 2.

The Atlantic Canada Cruise Association (ACCA) is forecasting approximately 611,000 passengers will visit Atlantic Canada in during the 2016 cruise season. This is an increase from 550,651 in 2015.

January 18, 2016 (Miami, Florida) – Members of the Cruise Canada New England Alliance (CCNE) wrapped up a successful 2015 season that saw over 2.44 million passengers visit the region.

In total, 2,443,833 passengers visited ports between New York and Montreal on 1,554 ship calls bringing an estimated $543 million in direct economic impact to the region.

After a six-hour wait for 47 feet of water to recede, you can go down to the ocean floor and get up close and personal with these giant monoliths. Touch their seaweed laden sides and feel the iconic “Hopewell conglomerate” of rock and red sandstone that make up these intriguing formations. Explore the mud and rock beach that is exposed. But be sure to keep an eye on your watch to get back up to the top of the staircase before the tide comes back in!

Atlantic Canada’s Charlottetown is to redevelop its port and launch as Port Charlottetown, Marine Gateway to Prince Edward Island this year

In 2014, Prince Edward Island hosted various sesquicentennial celebrations to commemorate Charlottetown as the ‘Birthplace of Confederation’ in Canada.

Following on from this success, the Charlottetown Harbour Authority is to make several significant changes in the 2015 season.
