Celebrating 30 Years of Collaboration Driving Atlantic Canada’s Cruise Industry Forward

February 3, 2026

Halifax, Nova Scotia – As cruise enthusiasts celebrate Take a Cruise Day on February 3, Cruise Atlantic Canada is celebrating 30 years of a shared vision for cruise in the region and looks ahead to an exciting 2026 season across more than 20 ports.

Atlantic Canada is at the Heart of Every Canada New England Itinerary

Since the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association (ACCA) was established in 1996, this shared commitment between ports, industry partners, and regional stakeholders, has helped ensure Atlantic Canada remains at the core of every Canada New England itinerary and other signature sailings, offering cruise guests unparalleled opportunities to explore the region’s vibrant ports, cities, and coastal communities.

A Diverse Mix of Cruise Brands and First-Time Calls

The 2026 season showcases the breadth of cruise brands drawn to Atlantic Canada, with several vessels making their regional debut and reflecting continued interest across contemporary, premium, luxury, and expedition segments. Supporting this diversity are new homeports and itinerary options that expand access to the region and introduce fresh ways to experience Atlantic Canada.

Cruise ships making their Atlantic Canada debut in 2026 include:

  • Explora Journeys’ Explora III
  • Oceania Cruises’ Vista
  • PONANT’s L’Austral
  • Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas
  • Seabourn Cruise Line’s Seabourn Ovation
  • Viking Cruises’ Viking Vela
  • Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady

Atlantic Canada continues to welcome sailings from established Canada New England homeports in Boston, New York, Montréal, and Québec City, with new itineraries from Philadelphia and Norfolk expanding access to the region in 2026. New spring and summer itineraries calling Halifax and Bermuda will further diversify cruise options for travellers.

Preliminary forecasts suggest that 2026 will be comparable to 2025, reflecting stability in both ship calls and passenger volumes across the region overall.

Marquee Port Highlights

Halifax, Nova Scotia
The 2026 cruise season in Halifax begins on April 7 with the arrival of Viking Polaris and concludes on November 5 with Seabourn Ovation. New this year, Norwegian Cruise Line will introduce spring and summer itineraries calling exclusively on Bermuda and Halifax, homeporting from Boston and Philadelphia. The season also features eight overnight calls, including the Queen Mary 2 in early July, giving guests the chance to experience Halifax’s vibrant downtown after hours. Ongoing enhancements in the Halifax Seaport, home to the Port’s cruise operations, continue to elevate the visitor experience and strengthen the district’s role as a cultural and community hub.

Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia
The 2026 cruise season in Sydney begins April 9 with the arrival of Viking Cruises’ Viking Polaris and concludes November 3 with Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Splendor. The port will welcome five inaugural calls along with multiple double and three-ship cruise days, highlighting Sydney’s key role in Canada New England itineraries. As the gateway to Cape Breton Island, guests are positioned to explore landscapes and cultural heritage alive with Mi’kmaq, Gaelic, and Acadian traditions, lively music scene, and world-renowned experiences such as the Cabot Trail, historic sites, and local festivals that showcase the island’s diverse cultural tapestry and natural beauty.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Port Charlottetown is poised for a strong 2026 cruise season, marked by six inaugural calls and three overnight visits, reflecting the destination’s growing appeal across multiple cruise segments. A key highlight will be the September overnight call of Sapphire Princess, bringing more than 2,500 guests for an extended stay. This allows visitors to experience Charlottetown’s vibrant waterfront and cultural offerings beyond daytime hours, generating meaningful economic impact for the local community. Meanwhile, Prince Edward Island’s designation as the Official Travel Destination of the National Hockey League (NHL) continues to elevate the region’s global profile. Together with an increase in luxury cruise calls, Charlottetown is solidifying its reputation as a bucket-list port of call for travelers drawn to exceptional cuisine, culture, and authentic coastal experiences.

St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador
The 2026 cruise season in the Port of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, begins May 21 with the arrival of the Swan Hellenic Vega and concludes October 11 with the Ocean Victory. This season includes six overnight calls, eight inaugural visits, and a record 13 expedition/luxury turnarounds, the highest number ever for the port. Located at the eastern edge of North America, St. John’s combines striking coastal geography with itinerary flexibility, distinctive natural landscapes and a vibrant culture, complemented by the city’s renowned dockside welcome program and warm Newfoundland and Labrador hospitality.

Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador
The Port of Corner Brook’s 2026 season will begin on June 14 with Holland America Line’s Volendam and conclude on October 23 with Oceania Cruises’ MS Vista, one of four inaugural calls this year. Supported by refreshed branding, an enhanced website, and expanded tour offerings—such as the Cabox Geopark—along with the new Humber Bay of Islands regional tourism brand, the West Coast of Newfoundland is well positioned for an exceptional season. From immersive cultural experiences and captivating scenery to thrilling outdoor adventures and authentic local hospitality, Corner Brook offers something for every cruise guest.

Saint John, New Brunswick
The cruise season at Port Saint John launches with impact as Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Venezia kicks off the summer season, arriving with over 4,000 guests on June 20. The schedule features five inaugural calls, including Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady and the upcoming Explora Journeys Explora III. With 10 overnight visits, largely from Royal Caribbean International, the city will enjoy extended guest engagement. A highlight comes July 5 with Holland America’s 250th Semi Quincentennial sailing. Passenger experience enhancements remain a priority as new waterfront development continues to take shape.

Growing Interest in Niche Ports

Beyond marquee ports, Atlantic Canada continues to see growing interest from luxury and expedition cruise brands drawn to the distinctiveness, culture, and warmth found in the region’s smaller coastal communities. These niche ports offer immersive and exclusive experiences while maintaining the welcoming spirit that has long defined Atlantic Canada’s approach to cruise tourism.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season

As Cruise Atlantic Canada celebrates 30 years of regional collaboration, 2026 reflects both the strength of long-standing partnerships and the opportunities ahead.

“For 30 years, the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association has helped guide the region’s cruise industry by working together with member ports in a shared commitment to present the region as a welcoming, world-class destination,” says Sarah Rumley, ACCA Executive Director. “Our collective approach continues to position Atlantic Canada at the heart of Canada New England itineraries, as we welcome visitors from around the world.”
