Clean Marine Infrastructure and Green Shipping Solutions Take Shape Across the Region

The Government of Canada recently announced support for shore power infrastructure at Port Charlottetown, marking another important step forward for lower-emission cruise activity across the Canada New England region.
Building on early investments by ports including Montréal, Halifax, and New York, more than five marquee ports along the Canada New England itinerary are expected to offer shore power capabilities or have related infrastructure projects underway by 2030.
As Green Shipping Corridor initiatives continue evolving and more sustainable marine transportation advances, shore power is becoming an increasingly important part of long-term port planning and sustainability efforts throughout the region.
This announcement further strengthens Port Charlottetown and Prince Edward Island’s role in the industry’s ongoing shift toward cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable cruise operations.
Cruise Atlantic Canada welcomes this investment and looks forward to continued collaboration among ports, government, and industry partners as the Canada New England region prepares for the future of sustainable cruise operations.
