Cape Spear
Journey to Cape Spear. A place where, with your back to the sea, the entire population of North America stretches out in front of you. And there’s nothing behind you until Ireland.
Explore the oldest surviving lighthouse in the province, a National Historic Site, and an iconic symbol of Newfoundland and Labrador's marine history.
For the naturalist, Cape Spear will overload your senses with ocean vistas of crashing waves, feeding whales, and majestic icebergs. The site also provides an entry point to the breathtaking East Coast Trail.
East Coast Trails - Sugarloaf Path
Welcome to Sugarloaf Path - 8.9-km, 3-5 hours (one-way), and rated moderate to difficult. This path runs from Quidi Vidi Village, St. John's all the way to Logy Bay. Along the way, you will come across several river crossings, experience coastal scenery, ravens, a World War II observation station, woodland walking and even an Ocean Sciences Centre.
Johnson Geo Centre
The Johnson Geo Centre is a geological interpretation centre located on Signal Hill in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador. Open since 2002, the Geo Centre houses exhibit galleries related to our planet and our provincial geology, oil and gas exploration, natural resources, space exploration, and the Titanic disaster. Features also include an educational area for children aged 7 and under, periodic hosting of travelling exhibits, a gift shop, and a seasonal café.
Signal Hill
Visit the iconic Signal Hill, a spot where flag signals were flown to communicate the names of arriving ships to those who inhabited the habour-front below. Where you can experience the crack of muskets and the roar of cannon fire. Discover how soldiers battled to control this strategic location, or explore the Cabot Tower for a view of St. John's and the North Atlantic that is truly spectacular.
